There are many requirements that boaters may face while researching maritime electronics and how new and established systems can work together. NMEA 0183 — This NMEA format has been, and will continue to be, used for instrument serial data sharing for more than two decades. Also, a modern, faster version for managing data from increasingly common AIS receivers was released. NMEA0183 states that data must be sent to several pieces of equipment (Chart plotter, radar, etc.) that are the “listeners” through a single device that is the “talker.” It enables one device to transfer information to several other methods, but it is not a network, because it is a small, one-way path.
A Chart plotter marine GPS works just like a GPS vehicle. This will give you thorough maps of your region including wrecks, canal signs, reference points and other landmarks. You can plan your trip using waypoints to build a path or, in particular maps, routing in-depth like you can do with a GPS vehicle.
The GPS chart plotters and combination systems are typically stand-alone devices. They do not provide any other functions that you can anticipate from a GPS chart plot and fish finder sonar. Most, though not all, won’t let you link to other peripherals such as radar. The downside of that is a lower expense to those who are not hunting for other apps.
